SUMMARY:Climate of Inequalities
DESCRIPTION:Join the UIC Latino Cultural Center for a series of virtual conversations with environmental and climate justice leaders this semester. Their work reveals frameworks and strategies to address the disproportionate impacts of climate change and environmental pollution on communities of color and low-income earners. \nCheryl Johnson serves as the Executive Director of People for Community Recovery (PCR). She is the daughter of the late Hazel M. Johnson\, known as the “mother of environmental justice” who founded PCR in 1979. Cheryl learned the fundamentals of community organizing from her mother and carries on the work of PCR’s mission to enhance the quality of life of residents living in communities affected by pollution. In this presentation\, she will discuss the Hazel Johnson Cumulative Impacts Ordinance and other campaigns that continue to honor the legacy of Hazel Johnson. \nThis event will be on Wednesday\, April 1 at 3:00 pm.
