DESCRIPTION:Join Oxfam America\, Forward Justice\, and the North Carolina Black Alliance for a community event that will bring lived experience into dialogue with policy. \nA grounded community conversation connecting lived experiences of labor\, caregiving\, and maternal health to economic realities and policy. \nAcross North Carolina\, families are navigating rising costs\, unstable work\, growing caregiving responsibilities\, and persistent inequities in maternal health and access to care. Black women\, in particular\, are often being asked to carry more while receiving less support\, fewer protections\, and fewer pathways to economic stability. \nWe’ll hear directly from Black working women\, caregivers\, workers\, and community members\, while creating space for advocates and policymakers to respond and identify opportunities for meaningful action. \nExpect powerful community stories\, honest conversation\, opportunities to connect with local leaders\, and concrete ways to take action. \nCome for the food and fellowship. Anna Woodroof\, a researcher and program manager at IDEAL\, will facilitate a conversation with Hali Dardar\, a Houma scholar who created the Uke’ Contracting System for data sovereignty in the context of oral histories. We’ll also hear from Kurt Naquin\, a Houma scholar\, writer\, and community-engaged researcher\, and Caren Cooper\, director of IDEAL and professor of public science.
