SUMMARY:Clean Water for North Carolina: Public Hearing on rezoning for Project Delta - Stokes County Commissioner’s Meeting.
DESCRIPTION:The Stokes County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on whether to approve the 1\,800-acre Project Delta Data Center on 1/12/25. Tell them NO DATA CENTER.This data center is a threat to local history and heritage\, it would be on land that was Upper Saura Town and is culturally relevant to the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation. The land is home to a historical residence of the Hairston family. \nThis data center is SPECULATIVE there is no tech company lined up to buy or use this data center\, no guarantee this investment pans out. A lot of economists are talking about an AI bubble… what happens to this investment if it pops before its built? Data centers don’t employ many people long term and are one reason electric bills are rising 2x faster than inflation. This data center would be on the banks of the Dan River\, construction could cause pollution of the Dan. \nShow up to ask the commissioners to vote no on rezoning and instead pass a moratorium on data centers. Wear red to show unity. \nThis event will be held on Tuesday\, January 12 at 6:00 pm at 1014 Main Street Hwy\, 89\, Danbury 27016.

SUMMARY:Durham Workers Assembly and MLK Steering Committee: Unite on MLK Day
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Martin Luther King Jr spoke on healthcare inequality in 1966 when he stated: “Of all the forms of inequality\, injustice in health is the most shocking and inhumane because it often results in physical death.” Workers must unite to demand “Hands Off Our Healthcare!”\nThe billionaires have launched a campaign of vile racism backed by the violence and brutality of the Department of Homeland Security and other police agencies against immigrant workers to keep us divided\, afraid\, and demoralized. They want there to be division among workers to prevent us from coming together and realizing the power we have to change conditions at our jobs and in our society at large. The people’s movement in Charlotte and across the state was able to unite and largely hinder Operation Charlotte’s Web. \nTheir regular and brazen violation of rights gives the green light to our bosses and other government agencies to do the same. This affects all workers\, and we cannot allow any more of our rights to be eroded. Trump gave a record $170 billion to ICE and CBP to roam the country terrorizing immigrants. Many of us are facing reduced hours and other cutbacks at work from the trade wars and introduction of AI and other technology. Workers must demand “Hands off Immigrant workers!” \nThis event will be held on Monday\, January 19 at First Presbyterian Church.

SUMMARY:WIRN webinar: US aggression towards Venezuela and its repercussions for Latin America
DESCRIPTION:The recent U.S. military attacks and threats on Venezuela are just its latest acts of war on its southern neighbor. The Trump regime appears more determined than ever to bring about regime change in this country that has the largest proven reserves of oil in the world. The danger of this U.S aggression is not just to the people of Venezuela\, but to the rest of Latin America as well\, especially to the targeted nations of Cuba\, Nicaragua\, and Colombia. The U.S.\, under the banner of the Monroe Doctrine\, considers all of Latin America its sphere of influence and means to reinvigorate its dominance and exploitation of natural resources there. Capturing Venezuela would be a jewel in the imperial crown\, but it would also inevitably lead to more and more neo-colonization throughout the hemisphere. \nThis event will be held on Wednesday\, January 14 from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

SUMMARY:Sign the petition: Tell the Senate to oppose all funding for ICE before 1/30!
DESCRIPTION:ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) has operated for years with extraordinary power and almost no accountability. The result has been predictable and devastating: excessive force\, civil rights violations\, secrecy\, and a culture that treats abuse as collateral damage. \nSince this weekend’s killing of Alex Pretti by federal agents\, many Democrats are speaking out and are demanding a fundamental change in how Congress approaches ICE funding. \nBut words are not enough. As long as Congress continues to approve funding without enforceable reforms\, nothing changes. Investigations stall. Oversight fails. Communities pay the price. \nGovernment funding runs out on 1/30. This is the leverage point. \nThe House has passed a DHS funding bill that does not rein in ICE\, but it still has to pass the Senate. Senate Democrats must refuse to fund ICE unless reforms are written into law and backed by real enforcement. No more funding first\, accountability later. \nSenate Democrats have the power to force this choice\, and some Republicans might join them. Every member of Congress needs to know the public is watching. Please sign the petition to the Senate now.

SUMMARY:National Wildlife Federation: Virtual roundtable discussion on AI data centers
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Clean Economy Coalition of Color\, join the National Wildlife Federation’s Environmental Justice\, Health\, and Community Resilience and Revitalization program for a second roundtable discussion on data center developments and their impacts on our lives. \nModerated by Dr. Khalil Shahyd\, learn from a panel of experts about the current policy landscape for data center developments and potential avenues for stronger public health protections. With greater federal interest in expanding the artificial intelligence industry\, many people have questions about the impact of data center infrastructures on the health of local residents and natural resources as well as their ability to participate in these decisions. Join us and connect with other attendees on this critical issue! \nAttendees will have the opportunity to ask panelists questions and discuss their own experiences with data center developments during the roundtable. We are also accepting video and audio question submissions to share with panelists before the roundtable and to share on our program’s Instagram in the weeks leading up to the event. \nThis event will be held on Thursday February 19 at 6:00 pm. Online registration is required. \n
