SUMMARY:Siembre NC: Enough Should be Enough Listening Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Enough Should Be Enough Listening Tour is a massive\, grassroots effort launching in February to engage 50\,000 North Carolinians—specifically targeting the 2 million voters who sat out the last election—to reclaim a state that serves us rather than the ultra-wealthy. At this call\, we’ll tell you more about it\, including the in-person team trainings that continue in March and April. If you want to create a mandate for our state to stop funneling billions to ICE while our public schools\, food pantries\, and health clinics are starved for resources\, this is the call for you. \nThis event will be Thursday\, March 12 at 7:00 pm.

SUMMARY:Appalachian Voices: Carbon Hearing
DESCRIPTION:North Carolina families deserve clean air and affordable clean energy. But for too long\, companies like Duke Energy have gotten away with polluting our communities and charging us too much for electricity. It’s time to come together to build a clean energy system for our state that cuts pollution and leaves dirty fossil fuels behind. \nThe Carbon Plan was enacted in 2021 to serve as a roadmap for Duke Energy to meet the state’s future energy needs while eliminating carbon emissions by 2050. But since then\, state regulators have let Duke Energy dictate the Carbon Plan’s terms. In March\, the state will hold public hearings on Duke Energy’s updated Carbon Plan\, which predictably falls short in protecting our communities and the environment by doubling down on expensive methane gas. \nYour participation in these hearings is needed to help create a clean energy future in North Carolina! The North Carolina Utilities Commission will livestream this hearing. \nThis event will be on Monday\, March 16 at 6:30 pm. \n

SUMMARY:US Sanctions: A Brutal But Failed Weapon of War (a WIRN Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:The US Empire is now sanctioning 40 countries\, most visibly Russia\, Iran\, Venezuela\, and Cuba. These sanctions\, a violation of international law\, are explicitly aimed destabilizing and overturning countries that defy US hegemony. Sanctions are a devastating weapon of choice\, deliberately causing widespread starvation\, disease\, and poverty in the targeted countries. In every case\, the poorest and the weakest – infants\, children\, the chronically ill and the elderly – suffer the worst impact of sanctions. This webinar will discuss the deadly effects of US sanctions as a weapon of war and explain how nations are building new forms of resistance and survival. \nThis event is on Wednesday\, March 18 at 8:00 pm.

SUMMARY:Imperialism\, Ecocide\, and Climate Justice: A Conversation with Dr. Rania Masri of NCEJN
DESCRIPTION:Join NC WARN and Dr. Rania Masri\, the Director of Organizing and Policy at the North Carolina Environmental Justice Network (NCEJN)\, for a critical discussion on how ecocide is used as a tool of oppression and imperialism. \nDrawing on real-world examples\, including the ongoing genocide in Palestine\, the webinar will explore the relationships between imperialism and ecocide\, and discuss how environmental destruction is strategically deployed to seize land\, control water and resources\, and perpetuate systems of oppression. \nSettler-colonial violence and genocide cannot be separated from environmental harm\, which is why climate justice movements must address both and build pathways forward grounded in solidarity\, accountability\, and systemic transformation. \nThis event is on Tuesday\, March 24 at 5:30 pm.
