It will be an interactive community meeting focused on one important question: \nIf a pipeline emergency happened in our community tomorrow\, would our people know what was happening\, who to call\, where to go\, and what to do? \nThe meeting will talk about how pipeline emergencies are detected and communicated\, what residents should know during an emergency\, and what responsibilities pipeline operators and local emergency officials have for keeping communities informed and prepared. \nParticipants will work together to: \n\nLearn how pipeline leaks\, ruptures\, and other emergencies may be detected and reported.\nDiscuss how residents are supposed to receive emergency notifications.\nWalk through a hypothetical pipeline emergency scenario.\nIdentify gaps in local emergency preparedness and public information.\nDiscuss the needs of elders\, children\, people with disabilities\, households without transportation\, and other vulnerable community members.\nIdentify questions residents want answered by pipeline operators and emergency officials.\nDevelop community recommendations for improving emergency preparedness and communication.\n\nThe event will take place on Wednesday\, September 30th • 6PM-8PM at 5th & Washington • 103 S Fifth St\, Mebane\, NC 27302. \nRegister here.

DESCRIPTION:The Land\, Food\, and Freedom Journal presents: Off the Page with Bria Miller. \nFor this edition of Off the Page\, NBFJA and The Land\, Food\, and Freedom Journal welcome Bria Miller\, author of The Abolitionist Atlas and New Afrikan Counter-Geographies\, for a conversation about land\, abolition\, counter-mapping\, and Black self-determination. Drawing from the New Afrikan Independence Movement and her travels across the South\, Bria’s work asks us to think beyond land access alone. What are we building on the land\, and toward what end? Together\, we’ll explore the making of her project the Abolitionist Atlas\, the people and places that shaped Bria’s thinking\, and the possibilities and tensions of mapping movement infrastructure in an era of surveillance.
