Earthjustice, a nonprofit public interest environmental law organization, reported recently on the history of Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) in Duplin and Sampson County, specifically the work being done by our friends at Rural Empowerment Association for Community Help (REACH).
With no help from the EPA, which exempts Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations from reporting their toxic emissions under the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), REACH and allies started monitoring pollution levels and sharing the results with the community.
