Every October since NCEJN’s establishment in 1998, we have acknowledged our EJ warriors with awards of appreciation.

This year only, on our 25th Summit anniversary, we have created the Quarter Century Award which was presented to Naeema Muhammad in recognition of the amazing arc of her justice work as Senior Organizer for NCEJN & her commitment to fight for frontline/fenceline communities.

This award was also presented to Don Cavellini in appreciation for his steadfast commitment to NCEJN as an anti-racist EJ warrior & his years getting into “good trouble” on behalf of communities facing injustices.

The Nan Freeland and Gary Grant Seeds of Change Award was created in honor of our cofounders. With this award, we acknowledge Nan Freeland in appreciation for her role as co-founder of the North Carolina Environmental Justice Network. We also acknowledge Gary Grant’s role as co-founder and first Executive Director of the North Carolina Environmental Justice Network.
