Funding Cop City in Durham – Postponed

This past Tuesday, November 12, the Durham Board of County Commissioners was to vote on spending $16 million to build a police training center – also known as Cop City.  

The Durham community was successful in delaying the vote.  Important to note, however, that the County Board moved the agenda to a work session (which means that no comment will take place) on January 6, 2025. The struggle continues.

Meanwhile, in Mecklenburg County, a militarized policy training camp is being designed, one that involves the clearing of more than 23 acres of trees. Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners already approved $75 million for cop city.
