Mama Naeema, Sister Naeema Muhammad was honored last night by Health & Environmental Funders Network (HEFN) with a lifetime achievement award for her role in the environmental justice movement and her role in mentoring so many people over so many decades.

Needless to say, the room was filled with her “EJ babies”; lovingly referred to by Mama Naeema even though their ages span generations.

In a conference room at the 21c Museum Hotel Durham, we heard stories that reaffirm what we already know: Mama Naeema is one cool cat; kind, fierce, and a leader that doesn’t just bring the joy to the movement, she insists upon it. Congratulations from all of us at NCEJN!
