We acknowledge that the land on which we live and work is the unceded land of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Lumbee, Haliwa-Saponi, Coharie, Meherrin, Sappony, Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, Waccamaw Siouan, Skaruhreh | Tuscarora, Catawba and the many other Peoples whose names and stories are obscured by ongoing colonialism. We commit to naming their existence as an exercise in power.
As we collaborate in the fight for environmental justice, we commit to continue learning about the history of this land, to center and join the ongoing struggle of Indigenous Peoples, and fight for Indigenous sovereignty, land stewardship, reparations, and rematriation, today and every day, in North Carolina, throughout Turtle Island, and abroad.
Learning about Indigenous issues in our community starts with listening to those leading the work. Connect with our partners, 7 Direction of Service, Indigenous Memories, Red Tail Hawk Collective, and Lumber River Keeper, to get involved.
